Duplex and Secondary Dwelling

In transforming a 1950s family home at Woody Point, the intention was to create a contemporary living space that could support both lifestyle and long-term flexibility. The property, held by a longstanding local family, presented an opportunity to explore how heritage, design, and investment considerations could come together in a dual-occupancy and secondary dwelling overlooking Moreton Bay.

I worked closely with the family and the construction team to support the evolution of their vision, navigating a complex MCU process, council engagement, and compliance requirements. Careful consideration was given to the sloping block, surrounding landscape, and water views to ensure the design responded appropriately to the site context.

Key Challenges & Approach

Waterfront and coastal considerations: Worked within environmental and council requirements to ensure the design responded sensitively to its Moreton Bay setting.

Multiple family stakeholders: Balanced input from a multi-generational family, helping guide discussions toward a cohesive design direction.

Sloping block design: Addressed structural and construction constraints with a suspended slab solution to optimise space, views, and functionality.

Through a design-led and collaborative approach, the original home was redeveloped into a contemporary duplex with a secondary dwelling, creating a more flexible and considered outcome for the site.

This project highlights my ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, navigate planning processes, and support the delivery of well-resolved homes that balance design intent, practicality, and long-term use.
